About BLI

Bethany Land Institute was born in response to three challenges in Uganda: poverty, ecological degradation, and food insecurity.

BLI takes an integrated approach to combatting these issues, forming leaders in Integral Ecology to transform rural Uganda and restore the environment.

BLI's Vision

Inspired by Pope Francis's Laudato Si', BLI employs Integral Ecology, which combines environmental education, economic empowerment, and environmental regeneration into a single, integrated program. Our goal is for rural Ugandans to become leaders in the practice of Integral Ecology, enabling them to be economically independent and restore the environment around them.

Mary's School

Mary's School is the education hub of Bethany Land Institute. Mary’s School cultivates caretaker leaders for rural transformation through practical training in regenerative agriculture alongside mindset, lifestyle, and spiritual transformation.

Martha's Market

Martha's Market is the business center of Bethany Land Institute. Led by the BLI SACCO, Martha’s Market connects BLI’s Caretakers and local farmers to pathways for sustainable entrepreneurship and livelihood security.

Lazarus' Forest

Lazarus’ Forest is the culmination of Bethany Land Institute’s work in ecosystem regeneration. From the forest’s history of severe deforestation, Lazarus Forest thrives today as one of the largest natural rainforests in all of Uganda.
